About a year ago I began taking individual coaching and nutritional training with Alex Marrero in order to prepare for Army Basic Training. Since then I lost 45lbs and increased my push-ups from 0 to 20. I have become all around stronger and have developed a love and understanding of healthy eating and cooking thanks to Coach Alex. She was patient with me and took the time to go over every aspect of fitness with me. Thanks to her, I am leaving for Basic this week stronger and more condiment than ever before. Her love and dedication to health and fitness has inspired me to make this a way of life. Thanks for that you have given me and I will see you after Basic.
Not really sure how to start this off but my name is Nicole and I'm 28 years old. I tried CrossFit for the first time in October of 2014 weighing in at 215 pounds and a size 18 in jeans. The first day was really tough I literally went home and threw up but the story gets better just wait for it... When I started coming to CrossFit 732 I did personal training for a while so it was just one on one which was good for me because my coach (Alex) was able to teach me about form and plus I could barely squat the bar (that's a girls bar btw Only 30 pounds) so I definitely wasn't ready to take a class and WOD with the others yet. One day Alex called me and told me to come early to take a class because she couldn't stay late to personal train me. She said "don't worry its easy and everyone will help you" . I walk into this 6 p.m. WOD of "Superheroes " thats what they looked like to me at that time and I started to panic. I didn't know anyone and felt like the "fat kid" (everyone had killer bodies ) except for me lol anyway i remember the WOD had pullups (I couldn't do them) thrusters and a 800 meter run. I couldn't even make it around the building one time without feeling like death and they told me 800 meters was 4 times around. The WOD started and I did my thrusters with just a 30 lb bar and jumping pull-ups to scale it. So I'm running around the building to do my 800 meters that I think is impossible to do, but I was stopping every time I got halfway around because I literally felt like I couldn't do it anymore. Right when I started to walk there was always someone there pushing me through. IT WAS THE SUPERHEROES!! They were saying things like "you can do it, great job, keep running, you got this, and PUSH"!! One of the girls even said she would run extra just to make sure that I finished! The "superheroes" pushed me through that entire WOD, cheering me on and making sure I didn't quit. This WOD was four rounds so I obviously finished last BUT I got the most cheers.
Everyone was clapping and coming over to give me high fives and tell me what a great job I did. Obviously, I thought I didn't do a great job because I struggled through the entire thing but they made me feel like I did and that's all that matters. From that day, I knew that I wanted to be a part of this team! I've never met a group of people like we have a CrossFit732. I was a stranger to them and they treated me like I was FAMILY! I'll never forget that day and I'll never forget everyone who went out of their way to push me that day! Because of the "superheroes " and coaches who never gave up on me and believed in me even after they had to show me the same thing ten times (lol), I have had great success!
I'm down 55 pounds and 10 pants sizes! I'm as happy as I've ever been and I'm healthy, which is the most important thing! Plus I'm super strong now. I went from squatting just a 30 pound bar and struggling to 145 pound back squat. That’s over 100lbs of strength that I have gained! I really owe it to all my coaches because they always tell me that I'm not allowed to use the word CAN'T so I never do. You guys changed my life so thanks all the superheroes – Alex, Jerry, Rob, Mark, Max, Rey and Veronica! I'm a better me because of YOU!
